No One Left Behind: How to Access Peer Support and Essential Resources

Be sure to listen to this powerful recovery story No One Left Behind

This September, in honor of Recovery Month, we are turning the spotlight on a vital initiative in our community. We recently sat down with Franchesca Saiz, a Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) at Mesa Counseling, to discuss what it really takes to navigate the journey of recovery and how you can access the support you need.

Franchesca’s story is a powerful testament to the fact that addiction can touch anyone, and recovery is an everyday, lifelong commitment. As she explains, “Sobriety and recovery are two totally different things.” While sobriety is the act of putting the substance down, recovery is the work of picking your life back up—rebuilding habits, setting boundaries, and healing the mind.

What is a Certified Peer Support Worker?

A CPSW is more than a resource coordinator; they are someone with lived experience who has walked the path of recovery. They act as your advocate, your “sober friend,” and your navigator. Whether you need help filling out housing applications, getting to a grocery store, or simply need a friendly face who understands the struggle, a Peer Support Worker is there to ensure you don’t have to do it alone.

Resources Available Today at Mesa Counseling

If you are ready to reach out, Mesa Counseling offers a comprehensive approach to help you build your own “safety net”:

Peer Support Services: One-on-one encouragement and navigation for daily life.

Clinical Counseling: Professional help for mental health and substance use (Dual Diagnosis support).

Resource Navigation: Assistance with Social Security applications, birth certificates, IDs, and rental/utility assistance.

Community & Connection: Join their community meals every other Saturday—a space for connection, regardless of where you are in your journey.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

The most important message Franchesca wants to share is that there is a way out. Even when things feel impossible, there is a community here that cares. You are not a “lost cause,” and you are not forgotten.
