Listen to the podcast here: Everything you wanted to know about St Vincent De Parul
When we think of St. Vincent de Paul, many of us picture the thrift store on West Main Street. But as we learned in our latest Health IQ podcast episode, that store is just the tip of the iceberg. Jenny Martinez, our local chapter president, joined us to share the heart behind their mission: improving lives, one neighbor at a time.
More Than a Thrift Store
The thrift store is the lifeblood of the organization, funding their various charitable works. By shopping or donating, you’re not just clearing out your closet—you’re helping fund:
Medical Gas Vouchers: Providing transport for residents needing out-of-town appointments like chemo or dental care.
Utility & Food Assistance: Bridging the gap for families during difficult months.
Community Cupboard: A 100% volunteer-restocked resource for those in immediate need of groceries.
Homeless Support: Providing essential backpacks filled with cold-weather gear, toiletries, and supplies.
How You Can Help
St. Vincent de Paul runs entirely on the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of the community. Here is how you can support them:
Donate Mindfully: If you have items to give, please drop them off during operational hours (Tues, Wed, Sat, 10 AM – 2 PM). Ensure items are clean and in working order to respect those who will use them.
Volunteer Your Time: You don’t need to commit to a full schedule. Even one hour a week or helping with behind-the-scenes tasks like grant writing makes a massive difference.
Support Fundraisers: Join the upcoming Bingo night on July 19th at Saint Anne’s Hammett Hall or participate in their ongoing raffles.
Need Assistance?
Jenny’s message to the community is clear: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Their doors are open to everyone, and their primary goal is to treat every neighbor with dignity and respect. If you’re struggling, please reach out.
