If you think the library is just for books, you’re missing out on the best-kept secrets in Tucumcari. Walking into the Tucumcari Library today sounds a lot different than it did twenty years ago. Instead of shushing, you’re likely to hear the hum of a 3D printer, the click of a sewing machine, or the laughter of kids building robots.  The Tucumcari Library has a Space for Every Generation The library has redesigned its layout to be more open and inviting.

Social health is just as important as physical health, and in Tucumcari, the library is the primary “wellness center” for connection.  Building Social Skills through Storytime Starting October 2nd, the library’s Storytime returns. Linda Gonzalez emphasizes that this isn’t just about reading; it’s about socialization. For many children, especially those homeschooled or not yet in pre-K, this is where they learn to listen, interact, and bond with their parents through 3D craft projects.

For Groups: With expanded meeting rooms, local organizations now have a central place to gather, brainstorm, and host events.

The Digital Connection Even if you can’t make it through the doors, the library comes to you via the Libby and Brewster apps. Whether you want to listen to an audiobook while driving or request a new release from your iPad, the library ensures that everyone in the community stays connected to the world of information.

For Musicians: A new, soundproof music room featuring an electric piano, drums, and guitar is currently in the works, providing a free recording space for the community.

Here are five things you probably didn’t know were available:

A Sewing Studio at Home: You can actually check out one of the library’s seven sewing machines to take home and finish your projects.

Casino Night Fundraisers: Planning a charity event? The library has five professional gaming tables (Craps, Roulette, Blackjack, and more) available for local agencies to use for fundraising.

The Digital Workshop: Between the Cricut machine, 3D pens, and resin art classes, the library provides the expensive tools you need to start a new hobby for free.  The Maker Space allows residents to build functioning machines—like the syringe-powered crane that won a ribbon at the fair!

A Legal Lifeline: In a town where it’s getting harder to find a Notary Public, the library has you covered for just $3.

Kindles for Kids: To move away from mindless gaming, the library now offers Kindles loaded with educational games that feel like play but teach like a classroom.

The Bottom Line: The library isn’t just a place to consume stories; it’s a place to create and a hub for social health, homeschooling, and community bonding.
