The Run/walk begins at 8:00 a.m., sharp! Participants walk a marked course; West on Hines, up 11th street and head East on Washington and South on 2nd street and then back to Kvols Park. Yes, the hill will be first, but that will be when we are the freshest. Then it is downhill the rest of the way.
Volunteers from our school honor societies and the community are stationed along the course to stop traffic for safety or for other needs you may have. After you complete the course, turn in your wristband at the finish line. T-shirts will be ordered for everyone that completes the walk. The shirts will be ready for you to pick up by the end of October. Make sure you put a legible cell number on the registration form so we can text you to pick up your shirt. The shirt pick up will be at the Quay County Extension Office (216 E Center Street). Please plan on picking up your shirt before Thanksgiving.

Since this is not a competition, bring out your whole family to walk and enjoy the morning. You can run, walk, roll or stroll the course. Wear a costume or fun hat to add to the excitement of the day. If you bring a pet, it must be on a leash. People walking with pets are asked to walk at the back of the group. Participants that choose to run the course will be at the front of the group to minimize passing walkers.
The Quay County Health Council is thankful to our many partners that help make this event a such a great success include Tucumcari Public Schools who are allowing our participants to use the restrooms in the gym.

The family friendly walk begins and ends at Damon Kvols Park on Route 66 and 5th street. This event is organized by Quay County Health Council and their Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Committee and co-hosted by the Quay County Extension Service. Everyone that finishes the course and turns in their wristband will get a free t-shirt and a commemorative sticker.
Registration for the event on September 27th begins at 7:15 a.m. with wristband number assignments. Since the purpose of this event is to have families walk together for fun, there is not a charge to participate. The registration is a quick form that lists your contact information and t-shirt size. One form can be filled out for the whole family. Everyone needs to be registered by 7:45 a.m. A brief orientation is provided before participants start the walk. All participants under 18 need their registration form signed by their parent or guardian so if you are sending your youth with someone else, please download the form, complete it and send it with them. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

A special shortened half-course (2.5 K/1.5 Miles) is available for new walkers and Senior Citizens. Those participants will be driven to the halfway point and begin the walk on the regular course. These finishers will also receive a t-shirt. To take advantage of this course, after you register, report to one of the marked vehicles on Hines Street facing 5th street.

For those with mobility issues, we ask that they park in the high school gym parking lot entering from the gate on 7th Street. Registration for the mobility impaired course will be on the corner of Hines and 6th Street. Please register before 8:00 am. This course will begin at the same time and will be on Hines Street. You will not need to step up on curb and there is a driveway to exit the parking lot, so those in wheelchairs can participate. The course is short, but a participant can make as many laps as they would like. Once completed, turn in your wristband at the finish line for a shirt to be ordered for you.
There will be a first aid/refreshment station on the course hosted by PMS Quay County Family Health Center close to the halfway point. Altrusa International of Tucumcari hosts the refreshment station at the finish line. After you finish the course, hang out in the park, have some refreshments, listen to the music, cheer on the rest of the runners, and visit the information booths. We have several booths this year. Parents are encouraged to visit the National Guard Van and learn more about preventing substance misuse by your children.
The 5K Fun Run/Walk is hosted by the Quay County Health Council, their Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Committee and the Quay County Extension Service. For more information, call 575-815-4575.
